BUDDING stylists from East Lancashire wowed the audience with some weird and wonderful looks at an annual hair and beauty contest.
Students from Nelson and Colne College competed against each other at Colne Municipal Hall in front of specialist judges, where the theme for the evening was Moulin Rouge.
There were nine categories for hairdressing and six for beauty, with contestants ranging from 14-years-old upwards.
The students, who have been preparing for the show since last September, showcased their skills to a 500-strong audience.
Hairdressing lecturer at the college, Annette Tattersall, said the interest in the competition shows how far the department has progressed.
She said: "It was another massive success. Year upon year the competition gets bigger and bigger due to the large amount of students we now have on programmes.
"It's always well supported by employers and the show is judged by salon owners from the local area."
Models for the event were selected by students and the highlight of the night was provided by the advanced Level Three contestants, who displayed Avant-Garde styles.
Annette said the models' hairstyles, make-up and atmosphere were equally electrifying on the night. She said: "The looks were very futuristic - not really something you would wear on a night out.
"It was extremely busy and absolutely buzzing in the hall."
The event, which took place on Wednesday night, was organised by head of hairdressing, Claire Pye, and section leader for beauty, Anne Flynn.
Winners included Andrea Shepherd in the Avant-Garde section and Rosanne Watson in the Party Style category.
