A TEENAGE burglar who took part in a pub raid had had a cocktail of Valium and drink because of upset in his life.
Burnley Magistrates heard how Michael Waddington had taken the till containing £1,250 from behind the bar of the Britannia Inn, Oxford Road, Burnley, in the early hours and handed it to someone else.
The defendant was questioned by police and released without charge but later went back to the police station and owned up.
Waddington, 19, of Lower Tentre, Burnley, admitted burglary and stealing the till, cash and tobacco.
The defendant, who had been subject to a community order at the time, was bailed until October 29, for a pre-sentence report and the bench told him they were not ruling out custody.
Andrew Robinson, prosecuting, told the court that the landlord of the pub was asleep at the time and it was suggested that someone was asleep in the bar area.
Waddington went in and handed the till to an accomplice.
The till itself was recovered but the cash and alcohol were missing.
Mark Williams, defending, said Waddington's grandfather, to whom he was very close, had died.
His girlfriend had announced she was pregnant and had then told the defendant the baby was not his.
He had the elation of thinking he was going to be a father taken away from him and had been in the depths of despair over his grandad.
