A POSTMASTER has raised thousands of pounds for Pendleside Hospice by selling books from his post office.

Steve Harvey, of Rosehill Post Office on Manchester Road in Burnley has been raising money for Pendleside Hospice by selling books to his customers.

And his efforts over the years have raised the magnificent sum of £10,000.

Steve sells both hardback and paperback books from the bargain price of just 50p each and offers an amazing variety from factual books to romances.

As well as recycling books Steve also turns unwanted foreign currency and jewellery into much needed funds for the hospice.

Steve handed the money over to a delighted Hospice President, Miss Muriel Jobling when she visited Rosehill Post Office recently.

The money that Steve has raised over the years will help Pendleside Hospice provide care to local people suffering from cancer and other life limiting illnesses. The cost of providing care increases year on year in response to demand for services. Current annual running costs exceed £1.8 million, of which, more than £1.4 million has to be raised from fundraising events and donations.

Hospice Fundraising Manager, Mrs Kaye Bartle said: "Steve does an absolutely marvellous job at Rosehill Post Office."
