FORMER Motherwell footballer Paul McGrillen, who died suddenly, was being laid to rest today.

Family and friends said an emotional farewell to the 37-year-old father-of-two and were joined by hundreds of mourners, including fans.

The striker was found dead last week at the home he shared in Hamilton, Lanarkshire, with wife Michelle, 37, and children Joshua, 10, and Chloe, 6.

Tributes were paid at the service held at St Peter's Church in his home town.

Former team-mates from Motherwell's 1991 Scottish Cup winning side were there, along with colleagues from junior league side Bathgate Thistle, with whom McGrillen had been playing this season.

The football world was left stunned by his death last Wednesday. He was the fourth player from the 1991 Scottish Cup winning squad to die in his 30s.

Paul played for Motherwell from 1990 to 1995, before joining Falkirk.

He also won the Scottish Challenge Cup with Falkirk in 1997.

After leaving the club in in 1998 he had spells with junior side and last season he won the Scottish Junior Cup with Bathgate.
