NORTHERN Rock today reported losses of £724million for the first half of the year.
The government-owned lender's pre-tax loss represents a 24% rise on the £585m deficit it reported at the same time last year.
The grim result comes just a day after banking giants Barclays and HSBC both reported massive half-year profits of £3billion.
