PETERBOROUGH UNITED striker George Boyd scored on his Scotland debut for the B international side against Northern Ireland in midweek.

It's a rare event for a player to net in their first appearance for their country.

ALLY'S ARMY (Ayr) says: I'm sure that back in the 1970s, the legendary Motherwell striker Willie Pettigrew scored a goal in the opening minute of his Scotland debut? Is this correct? Willie made his debut in a friendly against Switzerland at Hampden on April 7, 1976. He did indeed score a very early goal, although most sources give the timing as two minutes. This turned out to be the only goal of the game.

CCCC (Carmyle) - Could you please give information of an ex-Vale of Clyde player, Sylvester O'Brien. I know he signed for Hamilton in the late 1960s. Did he play for anyone else after the Accies? Sylvester O'Brien joined Vale of Clyde from Riverside Youth Club and signed for Accies on March 20, 1971. An inside-right, Sylvester made 13 league appearances plus four as substitute and scored two goals. He also made two starts and two sub appearances in the League Cup and found the net three times. We can find no record of him playing for any other team after he left Accies.

R BEAVERS (Renfrew) - Can you tell me the dates and scores when Rangers played at Aberdeen and Dundee in the years 1967 and 1968? On January 18, 1967, Rangers defeated Aberdeen 2-1 at Pittodrie. On April 29 they travelled to Dens Park and drew 1-1 with Dundee - both league games. On August 12 they were back in Aberdeen for a League Cup sectional tie and drew 1-1. Also in the Gers section were Dundee United, who they defeated 3-0 at Tannadice. On their last league match of the year on December 30, they defeated Aberdeen 4-1 at Pittodrie.

SCOTT HEWITT (Kilbarchan) - When Englishman Colin West was the first signing by Graeme Souness at Rangers, from which club did he sign and was there a fee involved? Colin West joined Rangers from Watford on May 15 and the reported fee was £200,000.

ICT FAN (Kilmalcolm) - Of the two old clubs in Inverness, Caledonian and Thistle, which was the oldest? And can you tell me which of the two had won the most trophies before the amalgamation? If we confine ourselves to the major Highland competitions, Caledonian were somewhat ahead of their rivals. Caley's trophies were: 15 Highland league titles, five Highland League Cups, 14 Scottish Qualifying Cups, 21 North of Scotland Cups and 20 Inverness Cups - a total of 75 trophies.

For Thistle, the list was eight league, three League Cup, five Qualifying Cups, 12 North of Scotland Cups and 18 Inverness Cups making the score 75-46 in Caley's favour. Thistle were the older of the two clubs having been formed in 1885, Caley following a year later.

KEVIN BOYD (Denny) - With Falkirk in the news at the moment due to their pending cup final appearance, it reminded me of a thrilling encounter with Queen of the South at Brockville in the late 60s. I do remember there were plenty of goals but I cannot remember much more. Cam you possibly provide any information to revive my fading memory? The game you are talking about was probably the goalfest of 12 goals on October 11, 1969, 40 years ago. The final score was Falkirk 7, Queen of the South 5. The Falkirk team was: Devlin, Ford, Totten, Robinson, Gibson, Miller, Hoggan, Roxburgh, Johnston, Graham, Watson and substitue Cousin.

Scorers were Graham (2), Johnston (2), Watson, Robinson and Hoggan.
