A COUPLE were able to re-enact the most romantic moment of their lives, 25 years on from getting engaged.

Jim and Sharon Young, from Chorley, were the winners of a luxury break competition organised by Caerphilly County Borough Council in South Wales.

Jim, 56 and Sharon, 46, who share a passion for South Wales, won a stay at the luxurious Bryn Meadows Golf, Hotel and Spa, near Blackwood.

When Jim, who works as a supply teacher, was contacted to inform him that he was the competition winner, he told organisers he had proposed to his partner Sharon, who works at Booths supermarket in Chorley, under Caerphilly Castle’s leaning tower in 1989.

On the second day of their stay, they revisited the castle and tower and photographs were taken in the same spot where Jim had popped the question to Sharon, a quarter of a century previously.

Lancashire Telegraph:

Jim, who has taught at both Witton High School and Darwen Academy in the past, said: “To be able to go back to the castle nearly 25 years after my marriage proposal to Sharon was amazing.

"The tourism people in Caerphilly loved our story and we were able to recreate the proposal in the exact same spot.

"Our stay was fantastic, it's a beautiful part of the world.

"As well as revisiting the castle and the proposal spot, we had the opportunity to see Llancaiach Fawr Manor."

Jim said that he and Sharon have an interest in historic castles and have visited various locations in the UK.

He added: "Nothing comes close to Caerphilly castle though.

"It's a special place for us. It is such as beautiful part of Wales, friendly people, superb scenery and it’s the birthplace of my all-time favourite comedian Tommy Cooper.”
