RESIDENTS in East Lancashire are being encouraged to think about the risks associated with drinking excessive amounts of alcohol as part of Alcohol Awareness Week.

Members of Lancashire Care NHS Foundation Trust’s Health Improvement Service in partnership with Inspire and Early Break are raising awareness of the issues associated with alcohol use and the impact this can have on people’s health and within local communities.

Gareth Beck, health improvement specialist from the Health Improvement Service, said: “Certain areas of East Lancashire have some of the highest rates of alcohol related deaths in England.”

The recommended lower risk guidelines is three to four units for men and two to three units for women to include at least 2 alcohol days per week. There are two units in a pint of lower strength lager or cider.
