THE Prospect Foundation's Green Team is looking for volunteers.

The team helps to reduce the number of derelict sites across the borough, creating more spaces to protect and boost wildlife.

Project officer Roger Plum said: "Most of the work we do is on council-owned land. Tools and equipment are provided from the Prospect's tool store so volunteers just need warm suitable clothing and footwear for outdoor practical tasks."

The Green Team also provides support to community groups, schools, resident associations, and faith groups.

Mr Plum added: "We can be very flexible in terms of the sites we work on and the type of practical work we undertake and this gives volunteers a lot of experience and opportunities to develop new skills.

"The volunteer activities include practical skills but we are also offer training that can help volunteers gain employment. The volunteer training programme is designed to fit the tasks and volunteer requirements so we can deliver first aid, foraging, bodging, tools maintenance, risk assessment and health and safety.

"This is in addition to the skills and expertise developed through hands-on practical work such as pond management, wildlife identification, hedge-laying, dry-stone walling, small tree felling with hand tools and grassland management.”
