A BLACKBURN school has honoured last year's Year 11 at its annual awards evening.

Former students at Our Lady and St John's Catholic College packed into the hall on Friday to receive awards from Rev. Father Frankie Mulgrew.

Among the winners were Sadiyah Bandarker who received a special award for outstanding GCSE results alongside Eleanor Lofthouse who won the outstanding contribution award.

Headteacher Patrick Murden said: "It has been a very strange sensation tonight to watch a year group I have not known and feel such pride.

"I wrote down three words as I watched you all come onto stage and receive your awards and that is pride, service and futures.

"The pride I felt, the talents and gifts that you all have and your uniqueness are really inspiring.

"It is always special to reflect upon the successes both collective and personal of each year group as they take their place in the community and wider world.

"Each year group is unique as it is made up of a special combination of talents, attributes and personalities that leaves an indelible mark on our school life."
