A TEAM of East Lancashire women, led by the wife of the ex-Lancashire cricketer Gary Keedy, are hoping to smash the pain barrier to raise vital funds for charity.

Fitness instructor Andrea Keedy, from Pleasington, and nine others from the Blackburn and Chorley area will take part in Manchester’s Survival of the Fittest, on Saturday, November 8.

Andrea vowed to raise money for the Breast Cancer Campaign after her mum, Lorraine Tyrer, beat the disease after being diagnosed two years ago.

She said: “Over the last six months, I have been training these ladies. Some of them could not even run 1km or 2km.

“I have been training them at St Paul’s Roman Catholic Primary School, in Preston Old Road, Feniscowles.

“I want to thank the head teacher, Cath Monaghan, because without her we would not have had anywhere to train. She let us have the grounds and the facilities for free.

“The Railway in Pleasington will also provide food after the event, if anyone wants to go along.”

The gruelling event will see the girls lugging beer kegs, dressed in kit, over a 10km route with several obstacles, including a canal.

Nikki Whitehead, Kelly Short, Fabienne Richmond, Lesley Barrow, Jane Maudsley, Emily Sealey, Sharon Henessey, Lisa Moore, and Julia Burland will all take part alongside Andrea.

Former professional bowler Gary Keedy played for Lancashire from 1995 to 2012, and took more than 500 first class wickets.
