A TAXI driver who knocked down a pedestrian who had just used a bank machine in Haslingden has been fined £150 by magistrates.

Sharaz Ahmed Hanif, 28, was taking a fare along Deardengate, in November last year, when he became distracted and collided with the man while turning into Pleasant Street, the Burnley court was told.

Hanif knocked the man off his feet and he is said to have sustained slight injuries.

He denied driving without due care and attention but was convicted by magistrates after a trial.

Hanif, of Aireworth Grove, Keighley, was fined £150 and ordered to pay £300 court costs.

His driving licence was also endorsed with three penalty points.

The court heard Hanif checked whether his victim was okay before dropping off his passengers. An eyewitness flagged him down and his details were taken.
