A DOG walker was allegedly struck around the head with a brick after asking a fellow pet owner to control his animals.

The alleged attack happened as the pair, who did not know each other, walked their dogs at an East Lancashire beauty spot at teatime on Saturday.

Police said the 39-year-old victim had asked the other dog walker, a 21-year-old man, to control his pair of Staffordshire bull terriers when their paths crossed at Edisford Bridge Farm, Clitheroe, at around 5.10pm.

The assault left the victim, who was visiting the area from Bury, in need of hospital treatment for cuts and bruises. He was later discharged. A man was later arrested and questioned by police before being released on bail, officers confirmed yesterday.

In a completely separate incident, a man suffered a broken nose and a bloody eye during an alleged assault in Blackburn.

The man had been at a function at Blackburn rugby club in Ramsgreave Drive when he was set upon by a number of people in the street at around 1.30am yesterday.

Police said arrests were made and a number of people were in custody yesterday.
