AN EAST Lancashire singer songwriter, who landed a record deal after posting videos of himself singing in his bathroom online, plans to donate half of the proceeds from his latest single to charity.

Nathan Grisdale saw his debut single ‘Smile’ reach number 44 in the iTunes chart in July, overtaking the likes of pop heavyweight Ed Sheeran.

The former St Peter’s RC Primary School pupil of Britten Close, Blackburn, now plans to honour injured soldiers and their families when he releases his second single ‘Lone Soldier’ on Monday.

The 19-year-old, who was snapped up by Stockport-based Box Records on a six-month recording deal after posting a series of videos on Facebook and YouTube, plans to donate 50 per cent of all the money his single creates to Help for Heroes.

The former Accrington and Rossendale College student said: “A while ago a guy called Jamie messaged me on Facebook, who was in the army, asking me to do a song about soldiers.

“I thought this was a great idea.

“I did a song about soldiers called ‘Lone Soldier’, I put it on Facebook, and the reaction I got was amazing.

“Me and my manager were in the studio one day, deciding on a song for my next single and we thought ‘Lone Soldier’ would be the perfect choice because the reaction it got, the message that it spreads and it’s a great song. Then we sat down and thought it a great idea, so I am very excited we have decided to donate 50 per of all the profits that we make from ‘Lone Soldier’ to Help for Heroes.”

Nathan’s popularity has soared on social networking sites and he currently has more than 70,000 followers on Facebook alone.

After signing the record deal in June, Nathan, who also attended St Bede’s RC High School, is working on more material to release before a decision is made whether to renew his contract.

His new single will be available on iTunes and all online stores from Monday for 79p.

Nathan added: “By buying the song you are not only getting a great song you are also donating to a great cause Help for Heroes. “I can’t wait for people to hear it.”
