AN ex-soldier is preparing for a half-marathon to help a charity for blind veterans.
Former Lance Corporal Adrian Lilley, 48, from Barnoldswick, will be among thousands of runners at Sunday’s Bupa Great North Run.
Adrian, now a detective constable for West Yorkshire Police, hopes to raise hundreds of pounds for Blind Veterans UK.
He said: “The charity does amazing work. Sight loss can affect any current or ex-servicemen and women throughout their lives, so it’s important blind veterans are supported by any means necessary.”
Adrian served with the Royal Anglian Regiment from 1986 to 1994 and was stationed in the UK, Germany and Northern Ireland.
He now volunteers as an instructor at the Army Cadet Force and is a member of the Tri-Service Scooter Club, which is fundraising for Blind Veterans UK this year.
Adrian has combined cycling and running to boost his fitness ahead of the run.
He said: “As I have not run for a while, the Great North Run will be quite a challenge – one I’m happy to take on for such a good cause.
“If anyone is running and has not chosen a charity to fundraise for, I'd urge them to support Blind Veterans UK.”
