A FATHER-of-three brought terror to a new mum's home after turning up at night, threatening to shoot her and her partner, after a 'perceived slight,' a court heard.

Burnley Crown Court was told how drunk Joey English, 30, had lost his temper and was spoiling for a fight when he arrived at the house in Stacksteads shouting: “Get him out here now.”

Joanne Titley lived there with her partner Jamie Hackett and their two young children.

English, who believed Mr Hackett had made an unpleasant remark about a relative, had drunk a bottle of vodka before the trouble on June 29, last year.

The defendant, who has a criminal record and has served time, admitted affray.

English, of Blackwood Court, Stacksteads, was spared jail, but his behaviour was slammed as 'pathetic' by Recorder Barry Searle.

English who works for Foremost Furnishing Ltd, Haslingden, received nine months in prison, suspended for two years, with supervision and a 10.30pm to 6.30am curfew, which Recorder Barry Searle said was designed to stop him going out drinking.

Prosecutor Kevin Donnelly said Ms Titley, who had just had a baby and Mr Hackett, were watching television, when they heard loud banging on the front door which woke up the children.

Miss Titley saw the defendant near the front door and asked him he wanted.

He made it clear he wanted to fight with him She said he was not in and suggested English leave.

He walked away very agitated, mumbling, and shouting incoherently returning 15 minutes later.

Mr Donnelly said Miss Titley was concerned he was about to throw a vodka bottle he had through the window.

English was told to go home and sober up, but demanded Mr Hackett come out and then made threats of violence, threatening to shoot or stab the couple.

Julian Goode, defending, said English had had a 'quite extraordinary' amount of alcohol. The defendant now had ulcers linked to his alcohol consumption.
