FORMER Burnley striker Delroy Facey has been charged with conspiracy to commit bribery as part of an investigation into match fixing.

A spokesman for the National Crime Agency (NCA) said: “NCA officers have charged Delroy Facey, 34, of Huddersfield, with conspiracy to commit bribery.

“The Crown Prosecution Service’s Organised Crime Division authorised the charges on the basis that there is a realistic prospect of conviction and that a prosecution is in the public interest. The charges relate to an ongoing football match fixing investigation.”

Facey, who became a football agent after his playing career ended, made 16 appearances for the Clarets during a loan spell in 2003. He was one of six men arrested last November after a national newspaper’s undercover investigation into the activities of Singaporean fixer Chann Sankaran.

Facey will appear at Cannock Magistrates' Court today.
