TRAFALGAR Street in Burnley will be closed for two weeks from tomorrow as Lancashire County Council carries out resurfacing connected with the Weavers Triangle regeneration project.

Timings will be changed on the traffic lights at the Mitre junction to keep traffic flowing on Westgate and Trafalgar Street will also be open for access to vehicles delivering to businesses and staff and students of the University Technical College.

Traffic will be diverted via Burnham Gate until Trafalgar Street reopens on Saturday, September 13.

Oliver Starkey, highways manager for East Lancashire, said: "We're sorry for the inconvenience while Trafalgar Street is closed, but hope people agree that it will be worth it in the long term as we make Burnley a better place to live, visit and do business.

"Changing the timings on the Mitre junction will help to keep traffic moving as efficiently as possible, and we've also arranged for BT to do a separate job on Trafalgar Street at the same time, which will help to minimise overall disruption.

"We've also scheduled the work to take place after the game between Burnley FC and Manchester United as we know Saturday will be a very busy day on the roads."

Perhaps they should have considered repairing the road at night from 6pm til 6am like they do with the motorways - minimal disruption then to all concerned.... but then again that would be too practical a solution!
