Phenomenal range of attractions lined up for bank holiday in East Lancashire

EAST Lancashire is braced for a fantastic Bank Holiday weekend with events staged throughout the three days.

Crowds are expected to descend on Blackburn Beat Festival from 11am on Saturday as the town hosts performances from Ella Shaw, New York Tourists and Dodgy.

Austin Sevens, Rolls-Royces, Bond Mini cars and Lotus Elans will be among classic motors on display at Clitheroe Castle from 11am the same day.

The North West Sound Archive has organised the event for the second successive year and it will be open until 3.30pm.

Burnley’s annual canal festival will be on from Saturday to Monday. A range of colourful boats will be on display as well as live music, street theatre and raft racing.

Higham Scarecrow Festival will run the three days with scarecrows created by villagers, on a ‘characters from comics and cartoons’ theme.

Chipping Agricultural Show will take place on Saturday at the showground in Longridge Road.

A plant show will he staged at Hoghton Tower from 11am to 4pm on Sunday.

A Little Hospice Heroes’ walk will be held at Towneley Park in Burnley on the same day from 11am 4pm in aid of Pendleside Hospice.

Tom Pridmore, Ribble Valley Borough Council’s tourism, officer said: “This weekend looks like another great one for tourism with plenty for people of all ages to enjoy.”

The annual World Gravy Wrestling Championships will be held at the Rose ‘n’ Bowl in Stacksteads on Monday from 1pm.

Temperatures are set to linger around the 13C mark on Friday and Saturday with highs of 14C on Sunday and Monday.

No rain is forecast.
