A Day to Remember in the Life of St Wilfrid’s Academy

Burnley and Pendle Citizen:

It’s been another brilliant results day at St Wilfrid's C of E Academy with students celebrating
their hard work achieving high grades across the board.

Natasha Stopforth, who received 9 A*s and 1 A was thrilled with her results. Amir Khan (8 A*s and 2 As) and Benjamin Neild (7 A*s and 3 As) were also amongst the top performers at the Academy this year.

The percentage of students gaining 5 A*-C (including English and Maths) has increased again this year, rising to 71.7%. This continues St Wilfrid’s improving performance in key areas over
the last few years.

Despite the national pass rate for English falling, our English Literature grades at A*-C rose to 94.3% and English Language grades A*-C were up to 87.8%. A great indication for the Academy.

Principal Cath Huddleston said: “I’m very pleased with today’s results. The students are a credit to themselves, the staff who have worked very hard, and their parents. We are delighted that a significant number of our pupils have enrolled into the sixth form and we welcome those who will join us from other schools in September.

We look forward to building on the success of this year’s AS/A2 results in the coming year.”

A message from Haslingden High School headteacher Mark Jackson:

“I would like to congratulate our students on achieving some excellent GCSE results, the culmination of much hard work from both staff and students.

"There were a record numbers of A and A* grades, with 10% of our students leaving with 7 or more GCSE grades at this level.

"I would like to thank our parents for their continued support, a vital factor in the success of our young people. I wish all our students every success for the future.”

Hardly camouflaging their results, it's quite clearly mentioned in the statement above.

For some good old fashioned hiding results take a look at what Haslingden High School said. Nobody reports 10% 7 or more GCSE's A*-A. There is a statement clearly hiding a clearer picture of their results.

The customary headline results for five A* - C grades including English and Mathematics are indeed given, though on the last line of the press statement from Mount Carmel. Perhaps those results occupy that position in the statement because if more readily noticed they might be compared unfavourably with results from similar schools, or even so unfortunately with Mount Carmel's past results.
