ONE of the world’s weirdest ‘sports’ will stage its annual championships in East Lancashire later this month.
The World Gravy Wrestling Championships will again be held at the Rose ‘n Bowl, in Stacksteads, on Monday, August 25, and hundreds are expected to watch the competitors get down and dirty in a pool of gravy.
All the contestants have to do is defeat their opponents in a two-minute wrestling match, with points available for fancy dress, comedy effect, and entertainment value.
There will also be face painting, cake and sweet stalls, raffles, a bouncy castle and fine food and drink being served all day.
Entry is £2 per adult and £1 per child with all proceeds going to East Lancashire Hospice.
This year there is also a VIP area for 15 people. This area will provide shelter, and seating with unobstructed views of the entertainment. A beer hamper, wine, lunch and refreshments will also be included. The organisers are hoping to sell this to the highest bidder, with bids starting at £150.
