ASPIRING teenagers celebrated a junior graduation event.

High school pupils got a taste of a university graduation ceremony after completing a motivational programme at the University of Central Lancashire.

Year 10 pupils from nine East Lancashire schools donned their caps and gowns this week in front of proud families and friends after completing the Junior University course at UCLan.

In total, 175 pupils attended from West Craven High Technology College, Colne Park High School, Colne Primet High School, Saints John Fisher and Thomas More Catholic Humanities College, Pendle Vale College, Shuttleworth College, Marsden Heights Community College, Blessed Trinity RC College, Sir John Thursby Community College and Unity College Burnley.

Pupils took part in workshops in subjects including forensic anthropology, games design, physics, nursing, languages, marketing, psychology, criminology and sociology and sport. The teenagers also took part social activities and team-building exercises, including an outdoor day at the Anderton Centre Chorley.

Louise Oldfield, co-ordinator of the JU team, said: “It’s been another great year for the Junior University. The students have been motivated and engaged from the very first session in January.

“They have got involved in every aspect of the programme and have really enjoyed seeing what’s available to them if they choose to go to university.”
