TWO hundred jobs look set to be created as a second occupier signs up to the Burnley Bridge business park development in Hapton.

The latest announcement says that the second tenant will occupy a 400,000 sq ft site and is set to be bring £30million of investment into East Lancashire.

Although it is too early to confirm who the potential occupier is, leader of Burnley Council Mark Townsend made a speech at a recent full council meeting outlining the plans. He said he believed the tenant would deliver ‘real results’.

Coun Townsend said: “The first occupier at Burnley Bridge has been signed and we are working on several others with the developer including this massive 400,000 square foot development.

“That’s hard work alongside business.”

Last month it was announced that electrical wholesaler YESSS would become the business park’s first tenant.

Burnley Bridge Business Park is a 70 acre development at Junction 9 of the M65.

It is the biggest industrial park to have been built in the M65 corridor in the last decade.

Coun Townsend praised the trend of growth in the town but was also cautious enough to warn of the penury faced by many of the borough’s residents.

He said: “We are leading a concerted growth trend that is not only being noticed across the country but, far more importantly, by Burnley residents.

“They can see fantastic opportunities in the new business investments.

“All of this is great and a falling unemployment rate is clearly to be welcomed, but no-one in this chamber should be unaware of the increasing hardship and falling living standards being experienced by many households, who are on average £1,600 worse off after four years of the Coalition Government.”
