A PLEA for help has been issued by a Clarets midfielder after his Championship promotion medal and shirt was taken from his car.

Scott Arfield, 25, also saw his medal and memorabilia from his successful League One promotion campaign with Huddersfield Town taken.

Arfield, who signed a deal earlier this month to keep him at Turf Moor, informed his 10,440 Twitter followers about the theft yesterday.

He said: “Had my Hudds & burnley promotion medals and shirts stole from my car last night any help will greatly appreciated . Thank you.”

His plight was recognised by at least two former team-mates last night, as collectors were also warned to be on their guard, in the event of any attempt to resell the medals.

Former Claret striker Charlie Austin, now of QPR, said he hoped that ‘Scotty’ would soon get his medals and shirts back.

And ex-Huddersfield Town team-mate Lee Croft added: “That's shocking mate. Those things can't be replaced! Hope u get them bk some how...”

Arfield, who made 49 appearances for Burnley last season in league and cup competitions, was unavailable for further comment last night.

Disgraceful behaviour. How can that inconsiderate fool not recognise how important these things are to a player. Best of luck to Mr Arfield in retaining them.

Let's see if that's you're attitude if you got your head kicked in or your house burgled. You'd be on the phone to them crying for their help.

It might help if the LT mentioned in what area they were stolen from and what time, date etc.

My thoughts precisely - it seems a bit strange that all these items were just left in the players car, not that I'm excusing whoever broke into the vehicle but if these things were so important to him why not keep them in a safer place

Well you stay where you are pal, if you think somebody should be beaten to death for stealing then you clearly belong there.

Does seem a bit daft to leave anything of significant £££ value, or sentimental value in a car.

I am assuming that Mr Arfield drives a "status" car of some description and is therefore likely to attract the eyes of unscrupulous old scrotes of any description. Usually if broken into these low-lifes are keen to get there hands on anything remotely shiny or valuable.

Maybe Mr Arfield thought his car alarm would suffice - obviously regrettably not. I am guessing that the perpetrator does not see any value in these ill-gotten gains - they would be a bit tricky to fence off and they may well have been discarded by now. Again guessing - but i would have thought that Mr Arfield's best hope is if someone found them lying in the street/gutter.
