THE first delivery of eight enormous wind turbines to Coal Clough Wind Farm will take place later this week.

The 110m high turbines — 50 metres less than Blackpool Tower — will be delivered to the Cliviger site over the next six weeks with the first instalment coming on Friday.

ScottishPower Renewables is replacing 24 turbines installed in 1992 with turbines which will increase the generating capacity of the windfarm from 9.6 megawatts to 16 megawatts.

ScottishPower Renewables project manager Gerry Gibson said: “We have now completed the vast majority of the civil engineering works at site.

“A great deal of planning has been carried out in relation to the turbine deliveries and we have worked closely with the local authorities and the police to carefully consider the route and timings of the deliveries.

“We would like to thank the community for their co-operation so far and hope our planning will keep any inconvenience to a minimum.”

Daily deliveries will consist of three to four abnormal loads with a police escort but will not take place at weekends or on bank holidays. They will go through Brierfield and Burnley between 9.30am to 3.30pm.

Scottish Power Renewables couldn't find their own backsides with both hands. There's been notices up for the last two weeks stating that deliveries would commence on the 23rd!! I'll believe it when I see it!!
