AN East Lancashire firm is helping to keep visitors and competitors at the Commonwealth Games safe after installing a £1million video wall system in Glasgow’s new CCTV control centre.

The system installed by Eyevis UK, based in Halifax Road, Briercliffe, comprises of 85 55-inch industrial LCD displays and 11 video wall controllers, which show live streams from 440 CCTV cameras around Glasgow city centre.

They are housed in the brand new, multi-million pound Glasgow Operations Centre (GOC), which has pooled the use of community safety and traffic cameras throughout the city for the first time.

Steve Murphy, managing director at Eyevis UK, said: “It’s our largest single contract since we started as a one-man band seven years ago, so it’s great for the company.

“We have seen steady growth over the last seven years and now we’re looking to ramp that up and continue growing.”

After starting the firm on his own Mr Murphy, a former St Theodore’s High School pupil, now employs seven full-time staff, as well as using sub contractors and support from other local firms in Burnley in industries such as accounting, business advice and health and safety.

On the Glasgow contract he said: “The centre monitors hundreds of CCTV camera images and other important data to provide real time information to the operations personnel, allowing the planning of quicker corrective actions.

“Multiple display angles, task sharing and intelligent display solutions with control features such as alarm management all lead to shorter response times and fast troubleshooting in emergency situations.”

The company does a lot of work in London, as well as international business in the USA, Middle East and Ireland.

They have recently taken on two new NVQ apprenticeships, Danny Preston and Sophie Chaney.
