A MAN has been arrested after an alleged sexual assault on a schoolgirl.
Police said that around 3.30pm on Monday a 15-year-old girl was walking on a footpath in the wooded area off Lower Burgh Way, Chorley, when she was inappropriately touched over her clothing by a male.
She immediately reported the incident to the police and the local neighbourhood policing team, response team, force helicopter and a dog patrol were deployed to the area.
As a result a 20-year-old local male was quickly arrested and is in custody assisting police with their enquiries.
Chorley police said that they believed it was an isolated incident but they have taken the opportunity to pass on some safety messages.
Their advice was to ensure if possible to have a charged mobile phone to hand.
Try to avoid walking alone in isolated place and if possible have someone accompany you.
Be aware of your surroundings and if you see anything suspicious call the police immediately.
