Teenage winners of East Lancs music contest to open for pop star James Blunt
AN up-and-coming band which roared to success in an East Lancashire music competition will be taking to the stage with pop star James Blunt tonight.
The Remedy, which is made up of teenagers Hannah Spurgeon and Elliott Dryden, both from Clitheroe, will perform a 45 minute set at the Hoghton Tower concert before the global superstar takes centre stage.
Hannah, who sings and plays guitar in the duo, said their success in the Reidys Home of Music Talent Competition, which was backed by the Lancashire Telegraph, had propelled them to a new level.
The 19-year-old former Ribblesdale High School pupil said: “We are over the moon to be performing.
“When we won the competition last year, it gave us a platform to get these bigger and better gigs.
“We were picked to perform at the concert because we are up and coming and acoustic, so we fit in with James Blunt quite well.”
Hannah and Elliott will perform a mixture of self-penned songs and well-known covers to a crowd of around 7,000 this evening at Hoghton Tower.
The two-day festival, in aid of St Catherine’s Hospice, will see classical diva Katherine Jenkins take to the stage tomorrow evening.
James Blunt, who is tonight’s headliner, shot to fame in 2005 with the number one hit You’re Beautiful.
He will be performing tracks from his latest album Moon Landing, featuring Bonfire Heart.
He has sold more than 17 million albums and 20 million singles worldwide.
Hannah added: “This gig is a step in the right direction for us.
“We are really amazed and grateful and we feel really honoured. It is going to be the biggest gig we have done.”
