Burnley University Technical College could become venue
A MILL building which found new life as a school could now become the town’s most unusual event venue.
Owners of Burnley University Technical College, the Visions Learning Trust, are advertising the £10million refurbishment for hire.
So far, the building has hosted a conference, an industry lecture, as well as an evening function which involved a hired bar, complete with license.
The UTC said the entire building is available to hire - such as the fitness suites for aerobics classes - and would even be available for wedding receptions.
The Visions Learning Trust’s £10.3million hub has already been put to work to shape the next generation of East Lancashire's engineering and manufacturing workers, catering for students aged 14-19.
Senior administrator Helen Whitaker said: “We’ve only just started doing it but we’ve already had some really positive comments. “So far, it’s only been lectures and conferences but we did have one cocktail party with a hired bar which went very well.
“It’s an unusual building and sometimes people want something a little different.
“We haven’t had any requests for weddings or bigger events but we would open to anything.”
Restaurant-level chefs, who provide daily meals at the hub, also offer an extensive menu for event hire outs.
The renovation drew admiring comments from English Heritage when the building was opened by the Duke of York last year.
The modern conversion of the old Victoria Mill complex salvaged a number of the original features, such as the steel ventilation system hanging from the modern ceiling, a huge, freshly painted industrial engine in the Waterside canteen and timber trusses salvaged from the old mill in the atrium.
