Colne gala a big success

ORGANISERS of Saturday’s Colne Gala have hailed an ‘amazing’ turnout at this year’s event.

The gala’s showpiece procession had been under-threat because of a marshalling issue, but after being saved hundreds of well-wishers turned out to applaud the 20 floats that made their way through the town.

The sun shone down on revellers as they enjoyed an afternoon’s entertainment which included Water Brass Band, a tug-of-war, stuntman Joseph Peace, Colne’s Got Talent, and live music from Cover It.

Coun Neil Butterworth, who helped organise the event, said: “It was an amazing day. The weather really helped bring the crowds out.

“The band, Cover It, were exceptional and the sight of the eight tug-of-war winners pulling 35 children around on the rope was something else.

“Planning for next year’s gala begins in two weeks and our priority is to get more floats in the procession. It used to take almost 90 minutes and we’d like to get it back to that level.”

Are you having a laugh? 20 floats?
The "parade" lasted 10 mins if that...
As kids it was fantastic and lasted ages and everyone took part...they didn't shut off the rd either..
They need to get more public houses and companies involved next yr or I wouldn't bother with the parade.
The fair was great.. Busy with families like it should be... Although if u are a large family.. £2 per ride was a bit steep..
Hopefully the committee will so better next year..

Hope it is here next year they were going to drop it this year?
The cuts that are going on here in colne are far too important now
For us here not to ask them why they say there is no MONEY
Yes well there would be money if they stopped returning it to
The government for their 2015 election campaign?
Why must we pay for their party to come and knock on our door?
If they want the job this can find the money themselves not us
