Banned driver from Burnley has fine cut

Burnley and Pendle Citizen: Banned driver from Burnley has fine cut Banned driver from Burnley has fine cut

A MAN who drove while banned was fined – but left court better off than went he went in.

Shop worker Adeel Qasim, 24, had been seen on Skipton Road at Foulridge, by police making checks.

They found he was not insured, Burnley Magistrates’ Court was told.

Qasim, of Waterbarn Street, Burnley, admitted driving while disqualified and using a vehicle with no insurance, on February 28.

He was fined £80, with a £20 victim surcharge and £85 costs and banned for three months.

When he appeared in court, he had owed £1,165 in fines. District Judge James Clarke cut the amount by £500, leaving him with a total to pay of £850. He told the defendant: “Ironically, you are slightly better off than when you came in.”

Parveen Akhtar, prosecuting, said police followed the defendant’s Vauxhall Vectra to a petrol station on the North Valley roundabout at Colne.

He admitted straight away he was banned until May 2014 and had no insurance.

The defendant, who was not legally represented, said he now used the bus to get to and from work and was sorry for the offences.

What a load of ****, it wont be long before more scum are seen behind the wheel while banned, time we started locking these c^&Ts up for a long time, what deterrent is a fine and a slap on the wrist?
unfortunately we have to wait 'till one of these C*%ts runs someone over and kills them, then still get off lightly. Make my blood boil!!

Please, please, please, don't start a rant about the Judiciary over this, as the Judge is only following guidelines from the Ministry of Justice, which states that; fines imposed, must be capable of being paid from disposable income, within 12 months.

why? why was the enforcement reduced?
there is no justifiable reason to reduce the fine.
The offender previously owed £1,165 in fines so CUTTING the amount of fine sends a message to all criminals that if you don't pay up you can have your fine reduced! shame on you Judge James Clarke. It is a sad day for British juistice. The British justice system is no longer fit for purpose.

Hey Judge

Want to know how he (and others) will interpret this?

He owed 1165 but you reduced that down to 850.

Now he's going to think "It's ok - if I don't pay the 850, they'll just reduce it down eventually to 500". So on and so on.

The fine should have been INCREASED you Dumbass and if he can't pay it off then he can do some time. Don't you get it????
