BLACKBURN and Burnley have some of the highest rates of booze-related hospital admissions in the country, according to new figures.
New stats from the Health and Social Care Information Centre (HSCIC) showed Burnley had the ninth highest rate, with 2,760 admissions per 100,000 head of population in 2012/13. Blackburn with Darwen had the 11th highest rate, with 2,750 admissions per 100,000.
The rates in Hyndburn, Pendle and Rossendale were also above the national average of 1,890 per 100,000.
HSCIC chairman Kingsley Manning said: “This report highlights one of the areas of impact that alcohol dependence has on our NHS. This data provide an insight into the effect of alcohol on services, and will offer a better understanding to the public, health professionals and policy makers into this on-going public health issue.”
