Burnley boy ,15, in 100mph M65 car chase
A MOTORIST who clocked up more than 100mph on the M65 and sparked a police chase turned out to be just 15 years old, a court heard.
The boy’s car was spotted by officers, weaving in and out of traffic, going on and off the hard shoulder, apparently trying to evade police.
Officers started to follow when it refused to pull over, Burnley Youth Court was told.
Magistrates heard how the teenager left the M65, going more than twice the speed limit on 30mph roads, ignoring red lights, travelling on the wrong side of the road and causing other motorists to move out of his way to avoid a crash.
The pursuit, just before 9pm on May 13, ended when the 15-year-old smashed into a road sign in Williams Road, though both he and his passenger escaped unhurt.
The court heard how the boy, was a model student at his school, which had had no concerns about him. He had never been in trouble before.
His mother said her son caused no problems at home, where he would stay in his room.
The boy, from Burnley admitted dangerous driving, and having no driving licence or insurance. He was bailed for reports.
