Burnley and Pendle Citizen: Influx of immigrants 'to snub Lancashire' Influx of immigrants 'to snub Lancashire'

IMMIGRATION will see the population of England rise by almost four million in the next eight years, according to official figures – but hardly anybody is coming to Lancashire.

The projected population rise will see numbers in the UK swell to 57 million, but much of East Lancashire will buck the trend.

London will have the biggest growth, with an increase of 13 per cent. But the increase in the North West will only be 3.6 per cent and of the five local authorities with the lowest population changes, three of them are in Lancashire.

Hyndburn is third from bottom on the table, where the population is set to actually decrease by 0.3 per cent. In Blackpool there will be a decrease of 0.2 per cent, and the population in Burnley is projected to stay the same.

Hyndburn MP Graham Jones attributed the decrease to a lack of jobs in the area. He said: “People migrate to where there’s work and employment – that’s obvious. This area has gone through a lot of difficulties and there aren’t as many jobs as in other areas. 7.6 per cent of properties in Hyndburn are empty, and in the last two censuses there has been a slight depopulation.

“There’s also an ageing population, so if there are skilled migrants then we need them.”

But Burnley MP Gordon Birtwistle said it was down to stricter immigration policies. He said: “Most of the immigration in Burnley over many many years has come from the Indian subcontinent. Most of that dried up because of the coalition government’s policies on having to meet certain criteria for immigration from outside the European Union.

“For Eastern Europeans coming to Britain there’s not the type of work they want in Burnley.”

Any wonder that the UKIP did so well in the Euro Elections? The country is stretched as it is yet the current goverment is planning to allow 4 million in the next 8 years to join us. It's about time they listened to the voice of the majority!

The thing is, if they view Blackburn, using Google Earth, all they will see is boarded up shops, demolition and all the shops that show the abject poverty of the area; where you can sell everything that you own, down to, the very clothes on you back.. alongside gambling dens, where you can gamble on the chance of gaining your fare home.

Its not surprising that fewer immigrants will come to East Lancashire than to the South East. The vast majority of immigrants come to Britain to find work, so will go where most jobs are.

As the government has taken money from the north and given it to the south, there are more jobs in the south. So they will get more immigrants. Simple.

Who want's more people anyway?

There are already too many immigrants here now.
Pity we cannot get rid of some.
How many people come and live in the area and stay at home all day producing more kids every year,, and don't add any economic value to the country?

But they still take all the health and social benefits from the government,
and don't pay a single £ into the system.
They should be stopped from coming.

They won’t listen, they never do – they know better. Cameron has given away more rights this week to the EU. They just think that the success of UKIP will blow over. There is only one way to ensure we get out of this EU.

I'm delighted that immigrants ignore this area. I wish more had done so in the past few decades.
Whereas I don't blame them for coming to the UK for a better life, I don't think they should have been allowed to better themselves at the expense of native Brits who have been undercut in terms of wages and denied houses that have gone to immigrants.
In ANY country the natives should ALWAYS get priority for everything - jobs, benefits, houses, health care etc etc. It makes sense to take care of your own before dishing out largesse to incomers. If I went to work in Poland or Pakistan, there is NO WAY I would expect to take priority over a native.
It is the fault of politicians as usual. Labour are obsessed with the multi-racial/multi-c
ultural/diversity agenda and the Tories are under orders from their paymasters in the City to allow immigration because immigrants, here for short-term employment rather a lifelong commitment to the UK, can afford to work for lower wages.
Maybe the jobs shortage is a blessing in disguise for Lancastrians - hopefully our way of life and our society will not be too spoiled by immigration.

The comments regarding immigration make me laugh, the reason we are in this mess is not because people taking the jobs from people in this country, its two things, firstly a lack of skilled workers in this country and secondly the bankers that put us in this mess in the first place. I hope people would not be blinded by the rhetoric and open their eyes to the truth. We were shafted by the big boys, who did not get punished for what they did and are subsequently still in their jobs, while we joe public have to suffer the consequences of cuts to everything. Wake up and smell the coffee when the top 10 percent of companies who earn the most in our society dont pay tax, why should the rest of have to suffer.

immigrants asylumssekers and refugees are micktakers whom the UK dont need nor want nor desire;if I had my way the immigrant buskers and the rumanian big issue seller who plagues Accy would be kicked out of Accrington town centre and banned from being there or performing there because its just a mere form of organised begging if these cadging nuisance buggers want to earn money properly they should get a full time job.

neither wanted or requested hmm that's why after world war 2 there was a drive by government to bring immigrants here to rebuild this country, these people had fought for the British against Japan and the Germans, these same immigrants went onto help Britain become an industrial powerhouse working in the weaving textile industry. Now these same immigrants children and grandchildren are being told to pee off back to their own countries. Being a decendant of a grandfather who was imprisoned in a POW camp during world war two, being a son of a father who spent 30 years in the mills and currently being a owner of a business that employs multiple english and asain workers...who eats fish and chips, who love to watch footy at the weekend or be gutted when England lose in the world cup. Why am i still not seen as being British??? Do i need to do a Michael Jackson to be accepted, is being British just another way of saying be white or eff off...lol I was born here, educated here, my kids are born here. My grandfather fought Hitler for yours and my freedom, was it worth it???
