AN 11th-hour appeal has been made for entrants in one of Burnley’s most popular annual events.

Race for Life returns to Towneley Park on Sunday, June 15, and more than 900 women have already signed up to the Cancer Research UK fundraiser.

Only 194 places are left for the 5km women-only challenge, with entries closing on Friday, June 13.

Jennifer Ward, Race for Life event manager, said: “We are thrilled that so many women have entered Race for Life in Burnley.

“But we still have places left so we are urging women to sign up as soon as possible.”

The event, sponsored by Tesco, has always been popular with whole families as mums, daughters, grans, sisters and friends take part together.

Last year 1,110 women took part in the Burnley gathering and raised £53,830 - the target this year is to secure a similar number of athletes and top £55,000.

Blackburn's 5km Race for Life takes place at Witton Park, Preston Old Road, at 7.30pm on Wednesday June 25.

Women can enter Race for Life by going online to raceforlife.org or by calling 0845 600 6050.
