‘MALE diva’ Andrew Derbyshire has paid tribute to his army of supporters in East Lancashire as he rehearses for his make-or-break Saturday night TV showcase.
The Britain’s Got Talent hopeful’s face is plastered across shops, gyms and bars in Burnley and Padiham as the 31-year-old prepares for his moment of truth.
And two of his biggest fans, sister Jodie and his niece Jolie, are not likely to leave it there as the all-important public vote could catapult the former Accrington and Rossendale College student to the BGT final.
He is hoping to carry the banner for East Lancashire after Crazy Rouge, featuring Padiham dancer Stephanie Morville, were voted out in Wednesday night’s heat.
Andrew has adopted the ‘Male Diva’ as his theme, after a throwaway remark by Simon Cowell at his qualifier and hundreds of posters have been produced and distributed by the Image Works, on Lomeshaye industrial estate.
Between rehearsals and photo-shoots, Andrew praised his support crew in Burnley and looked ahead to his semi-final challenge.
He said: “It has just been so lovely. I’m really chuffed with them. I’ve just left them to it but they love being involved.
“I’m just waiting for a load of the posters to be delivered down here – they’re much more reserved down here than in Burnley.”
He is keeping his semi-final piece under wraps but he’s confident it will prove to be the perfect pitch for the TV audience.
Andrew added: “I’ve picked the song myself and it is perfect for me. Not only will it show my range, with all the top notes, but the journey of the song is also important.
“It’s still nerve-wracking and I’d be lying if I said it wasn’t, but I’m really excited and hope everyone in East Lancashire will vote for me.”
His sister Jodie added: “We have been giving out posters left, right and centre and it’s just getting bigger and bigger in the run-up to Saturday night’s show.
“We have got our signs ready, and glitter gloves for the ‘Male Diva’. The support has been amazing.”
His niece Jolie featured recently in the Three ‘Sing It Kitty’ advert and has been busy making her own sign for uncle Andrew.
