A 26-YEAR-OLD man has been convicted of rape, assault by penetration, and sexual assault, after a 12-day trial at Burnley Crown Court, Adam Collier had faced a total of eight allegations – three charges of rape, two of assault by penetration, and three of sexual assault.

The jury was unable to reach verdicts on two rape charges, one allegation of assault by penetration, and two counts of sexual assault, and was discharged by Recorder Nicholas Clarke, QC.

Collier, from Colne, but of no fixed address, will face a retrial over the five allegations on November 26.

He had claimed he and the victim had consensual sex in Colne, last November, and denied all the charges against him.
