THE East Lancashire Railway’s popular 1940s weekend is returning for its 16th year on Saturday.
The event will feature a wide range of 1940s-inspired entertainment all along the railway line, and many people will be dressed in 1940s costume.
There will be a new vintage funfair at Heywood Station, ENSA Entertainers singing favourite forties ballads, and wartime workshops by After Dark Entertainment.
There will also be a memorabilia and craft fair, vintage clothing stalls, dramatic battle re-enactments, live music, plus comedy, military and vintage vehicle exhibitions, and afternoon teas.
A spokesman for the ELR said: “Why not book a spot on the 1940s Rail Ale Trail?
“Soak up forties facts, and ambience, on what may be the most glamorous Rail Ale Trail we have ever embarked on.
“Don’t forget to dress to impress as we take you on a steam-powered pub crawl around some of the finest pubs and bars in the area.
“The trail includes a hearty pub lunch at the popular Eagle and Child, in Ramsbottom, wholesome grub to keep a soldier on his feet during the tour.”
