TEACHERS at a Padiham school have been praised for improving the quality of lessons and raising the level of pupils’ achievement.

An inspection by education watchdog Ofsted confirmed ‘the vast majority’ make good progress at St John the Baptist RC Primary.

The St John’s Road school got a ‘good’ rating when it was visited in 2010 and has maintained that for 2014.

Inspector Marian Thomas said: “Quality of teaching is nearly always good, with examples of outstanding practice. Pupils enjoy learning and make good progress.”

She said standards in reading, writing and mathematics by the end of Year 6 were sometimes above the national average.

The inspector added the school was not yet outstanding because standards in writing were lower than those in reading and maths, as pupils were not given longer pieces of work to improve their skills.
