THE winning schools for Lancashire County Council’s ‘Chairman's Challenge’ will be decided today.

This annual competition has run since 2004 to encourage teachers, pupils and families to come up with innovative ideas to make their schools healthier, greener and safer.

The 20 finalists will head to County Hall and make a presentation to judges, in a bid to win £1,000.

Finalists in the primary category include: Manor Road Primary School, Clayton-le-Woods; Brunshaw Primary School, Burnley; and Wheatley Lane Methodist VA Primary School, Fence In the Special / Short Stay category, they include Mayfield Specialist School, Chorley; Pendle Community High School, Nelson; and Cribden House Community Special School, Rawtenstall Schools in the ‘Family Involvement’ final shortlist include: Duke Street Primary School, Chorley; Astley Park School, Chorley; The Family Tree Centre, Brierfield; and St John with St Michael CE Primary School, Shawforth.

County council chairman Michael Devaney said: “This is a great opportunity for young people and their families to get creative.”
