WORK has begun on a £4m development to build 46 new homes in Pendle.

Developer Mulbury Homes said the mix of two and three-bedroom houses would ‘revitalise’ a vacant 2.3 acre site, off Valley Road, Barnoldswick.

The scheme was granted planning permission by Pendle Council’s West Craven Area Committee last October.

The site comprises open land between allotments and a private car park used by bed firm Silentnight.

Greg Mulligan, director of Mulbury Homes, said: “This is the latest in a number of schemes we have developed on behalf of Housing Pendle, helping to increase the supply of affordable housing, and regenerating communities across the region.

“We are pleased to get building work started follow-ing detailed consultations with the local community.

“We’re confident that all residents in the area will benefit greatly from the development which has been des-igned to complement existing homes in the area,” added Mr Mulligan The project received just one objection from a resident before it was approved last year.

Janette Taylor, head of Housing Pendle, said: “We are constantly looking to develop new, affordable homes across our communities to meet the needs of the future.

“The homes are energy efficient and safe.”

The homes, being built by south Manchester-based Harbur Construction, are scheduled to be completed at the end of March 2015.
