ONE-off Clarets shirts worn by Sean Dyche’s side during Burnley’s final home game of the season have fetched nearly £25,000 during an online auction.

The club sold off 20 retro-style claret and blue jerseys, which were worn to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the club’s first FA Cup victory, for a total of £24,190.

Special permission from the Football League and Buckingham Palace had to be gained in order to have the tops emblazoned with the actual royal crest sported on that momentous day in 1914.

Each member of Sean Dyche’s matchday squad for the 1-0 victory against Ipswich Town at Turf Moor on April 26 signed their shirts, and every shirt will be issued to the winning bidders with certificates of authenticity.

Top scorer Danny Ings’ shirt attracted the most interest, with a winning bid of £5,500 finally being tabled.

Other sought-after jerseys were those belonging to Ramsbottom-born full-back Kieran Trippier, whose top fetched £2,500, and captain Jason Shackell’s, which went for £1,503.

The auction did not feature a shirt for Sam Vokes, as the Welsh centre-forward was injured and did not feature in the squad against Ipswich.

Back-up midfielder Brian Stock’s shirt was the bargain of the lot, going for just £400.

The club’s marketing executive, Nick Taylor, said the proceeds of the auction would be used to fund the ongoing 1914 exhibition at Towneley Hall, which was made free to all Turf Moor season ticket-holders.
