THE headteacher of a Burnley school has moved to clarify its reasons for building a new classroom.

The Lancashire Telegraph reported last week how Rosewood Primary School, which is rated good by Ofsted, wanted planning permission for a new modular building.

In its application, Lancashire County Council said one of the building’s uses would be for ‘challenging disruptive behaviour in class’, but Mr Ian McCann said the document was not accurate.

He said: “Rosewood is not a school which needs the extra space for disruptive pupils.

“It needs the extra space because the school has expanded in both pupil numbers and in terms of staff as well as the number of learning opportunities which we offer.

“Primary schools like ours go out of their way to tailor a curriculum which meets the needs of individuals and groups of children. Rosewood’s broad and balanced curriculum was praised by Ofsted especially in terms of enrichment.”
