A BAND from Pendle is aiming high after being snapped up by a London record label.

Stilts - made up of Sam Curran, 21, Jonny Dickin, 21, and his brother Chris Dickin, 22 - have been given their big chance by fledgling label Snaketown, set up in 2012.

The band were spotted at The Black Heart, in Camden, last year by record bosses.

And now, Stilts, from Barnoldswick, will be releasing music later this year.

The band take their influences from Black Sabbath, The Beatles and Elliot Smith, but they have their own distinctive sound.

Sam said: “We have recorded an EP and we’re going to be releasing some stuff this year.

“Snaketown have been fantastic with us, they’ve been really positive about our music and have come up with some great strategies which should help us reach more people.”

All three members of the band attended West Craven High, in Barnoldswick.

During the day, Sam and Chris work as painters and decorators, while Jonny is studying at Leeds University.

“We love making music,” said Sam.

“The dream is to be able to do it full-time but most importantly we want to enjoy it and have a good time.

“This year we will be going on an eight-day tour and playing a few gigs with the band Aeroplane Flies High, which will be a great experience and a great opportunity for us to get out in the UK and play as much as we can.

“I would say our sound is a bit surfy and psychedelic sound, and definitely some grunge in there as well.”

Other bands on the label include Aeroplane Flies High, Black Manila and Francobollo.
