CLARETS legend Leighton James is back home after suffering a mild stroke.

Mr James, 61, was taken ill on Sunday afternoon with high blood pressure, and was unable to watch Burnley’s victory over Wigan Athletic on Easter Monday.

The former Wales winger, who scored 81 goals in 393 appearances for the club during three separate spells in the 1970s and 1980s, was released from hospital in Swansea last night.

Mr James, known as Taffy to the Turf Moor faithful, wished Sean Dyche’s side well after they clinched promotion to the Premier League.

He said: “They’ve had a great season. Now I’m concentrating on getting better.”

Mr James, who managed Accrington Stanley for five months of the 1997/98 season, followed events at Turf Moor using updates on his daughter’s mobile phone.

Mr James also represented Burnley Cricket Club, and Lowerhouse Cricket Club, in the Lancashire League.
