THE son of a gifted violinist who killed herself days after she gave evidence at a sex abuse trial involving a choirmaster and his Rossendale ex-wife said he hopes processes will be improved to prevent the tragedy being repeated.
Mother-of-four Frances Andrade took her own life shortly after giving evidence at the Manchester Crown Court trial of Michael and Kay Brewer.
Michael Brewer was convicted of indecently assaulting Mrs Andrade while she was a pupil at the feted city music school Chetham’ and jailed for six years. His former wife Kay, from Haslingden, was found guilty of indecently assaulting the same victim when she was aged 18 and was jailed for 21 months.
And a serious case review by Surrey Safeguarding Adults Board found that Mrs Andrade’s suicide ‘could and should’ have been prevented.
Their report noted that she was ‘let down’ by mental health services.
Son Oliver Andrade said after publication: “This report has the ability to save lives and help some of the most vulnerable in society.”
