Burnley and Pendle Citizen: Nuisance neighbour booted out of Brierfield home Nuisance neighbour booted out of Brierfield home

A TROUBLEMAKER who caused problems for neighbours around the clock has been kicked out of his terraced house in Brierfield.

Alan Lee had been a ‘persistent nuisance’ at his home in Regent Street, with local drug addicts calling at all times of the day and night for around eight months.

Loud arguments, shouting and swearing could be heard from the property and neighbours had to put up with smashed windows and other petty acts of vandalism, which has been blamed on Lee and the house’s regular occupants.

Several residents gave statements to Lancashire Police, working with community beat manager Pc John Bailey, in a bid to get rid of Lee.

And after a brief hearing at Burnley Magistrates' Court, a closure order has now been issued, resulting in the property being boarded up for three months.

Deputy district judge David Scanlon said he was satisfied that there was a ‘persistent serious nuisance and disorder’ because of Lee’s presence at the address.

Lee failed to attend court but was later removed from the property before workmen formally sealed up the premises Chris Keogh, who applied for the order on behalf of Lancashire Police, told the Burnley court that Lee had been officially notified of the closure order last Wednesday.

“He has been quite elusive in that has taken all of his belongings upstairs to make it appear that he had moved out but we eventually managed to locate him,” he said.

Even the landlords of the property had no objection to the closure order being made, said Mr Keogh.

Pc Karen Isherwood, who is Pendle’s anti-social behaviour unit co-ordinator, said: “The noise and nuisance from the property was keeping people awake and it was starting to affect their health and well-being.

“People living there knew that Mr Lee had problems but they had had enough. This has been going on for about eight months but it has really accelerated over the past two months.”

Glad to read that the neighbours are at last getting some relief, but removing him hasn't really solved the problem, has it? What happens to him now? He will more than likely do the same thing in some other neighbourhood. Coming to a house near you?

Neighbours like that ruin your life!
Having experienced it you feel no sympathy for them, and perhaps uncharitably you wouldn't care if they had to live in a tent on the moors. They don't deserve the right to ruin others lives! The Victorians had institutions for them. Yes-that's how they make you feel.

scum like this destroy the quality of a street in an instant. all the good people move out and no good people want to live near them so more scum move in.
the ones near me sell dope to kids, steal and rebuild bikes dumping their spare parts and binbags of rubbish in the back street, robbing local garages, regularly find them in your back yard or kicking in someones garden gate, growing weed in their house but nobody gets arrested as it cant be pinned on one person....
no matter how many times these get reported to either to the council or police their still there.
oh, and if they find out you reported them then it makes you wish you hadn't bothered....

It has taken a long time but finally all the services have pulled together to remove him. The other residents of Regent St. and surrounding area can finally relax in their own homes, a right any human should have. It is a worry that he and his problems have not been solved and just moved hopefully the system will support him, as he is a danger to himself and others....

I have to live with this going on next door to me, drugs, early hours callers, knocking hell out of each other and slamming doors, screaming all night long. Police call regularly but haven't worked out yet that as they pull up at the front door the occupants run out of the back and disappear. Pathetic it might be but if i ring the police all the time then how long before i get the broken window, gate kicked in treatment? The town is a Sh** hole
