East Lancs firm lights up new celebrity nightspot

Burnley and Pendle Citizen: Chantelle Lighting, based in Nelson, has helped light up Liverpool's hottest new nightspot Smugglers Cove Chantelle Lighting, based in Nelson, has helped light up Liverpool's hottest new nightspot Smugglers Cove

CELEBRITIES such as Alex Gerrard, Coleen Rooney and Jennifer Ellison will be sipping their champagne under lights created by a Pendle firm.

Chantelle Lighting, based in Nelson, has helped light up Liverpool's hottest new nightspot Smugglers Cove in a 19th Centuary listed former warehouse building on the city's Albert Dock.

Anthony Holly, Chantelle Lighting managing director, said: “By hanging netting, rope, shells and other items found in the water to the anchor we created a truly unique lighting feature which looks like it has just been pulled up from the water in the Albert Dock.

“The result was a venue which looks like it is full of genuine artefacts brought home by smugglers and sailors.”

Chantelle Lighting worked with Paul Danson Imagineering to create a theatrical maritime themed interior, with all of the fittings looking like they had been reclaimed from the water, brought back to Liverpool by travellers.

Using genuine maritime materials including driftwood, rope and empty rum bottles to create a treasure trove of naval inspired fittings, the firm created a number of bespoke light fittings including one using a genuine ship anchor.

Sarah de Freitas, from Paul Danson Imagineering, said: “Anthony is fantastic at listening to a brief and then sourcing the exact items you are imagining, and turning crazy ideas into something realistic.

“I love the end result, especially the Baronial Room which, with its huge chandelier, would be the perfect location for a ship’s captain returning from his travels to have a drink of rum.”

Chantelle Lighting has previously supplied lights for all 319 rooms at the West Midlands hotel and golf course The Belfry, including a bespoke chandelier made from 140 PING golf clubs.
