THE Todmorden Curve completion date is still realistic, say Network Rail bosses (LT, March 31).
It isn’t cutting-edge railway technology to lay track on an existing trackbed, although it does seem to be to acquire diesel rolling stock.
Lancashire, diluted with the unitary authorities, has very little clout when it comes to pushing new infrastructure schemes, unlike areas covered by Merseytravel or Greater Manchester PTA.
There are many of these ‘infill schemes’ in Lancashire, such as the Burscough Curves which cause tortuous journey times from Lancashire to the Merseyside rail network, and sadly the Todmorden Curve isn’t a shining example of such a scheme to progress.
