THREE industrial units gutted in a blaze, putting three businesses out of action, are set to be rebuilt.

Rossendale Council owns the buildings at Heys Street Industrial Estate, in Rockcliffe Road, that a huge blaze tore through last November, leaving three business owners jobless at the time.

Proposals have been submitted to demolish the shell of a building left standing, that used to house Murf’s Body Shop, MJ Autos, and PC’s Tyres and Exhausts, and erect a similar unit in its place.

Around 30 firefighters tackled the four-hour inferno which also destroyed two cars, dozens of tyres and at least £100,000 of tools and equipment.

The businesses had been moved to the units in September 2012 by Rossendale Council to make way for the construction of Bacup Morrisons.

Peter Salt, owner of PC’s Tyres and Exhausts, now based at a larger unit at Beech Industrial Estate, said: “The fire was an obstacle that was difficult to get over, but we’re doing very well now.

“I got the keys for our new unit in January, and we were open for business the following month, so it didn’t take us a great deal of time to get up again.

“We’re only half a mile away from where we were, and a lot of our customers found us and stayed with us.”
